Pizza is one of the most commonly consumed meals eaten at home and out at restaurants with 60% of people saying they eat pizza at least once a week.
This got us thinking, why do so many people think it’s acceptable to have pineapple on a pizza?
…just kidding, we don’t judge!
The real question was why do so many settle for a poor quality pizza that tastes just like the cardboard it comes in?
Why can't we have a restaurant quality pizza at home?
From this moment onward, we set out on a journey to create a quality pizza which our Italian friends would be proud of!
The biggest reason why so many purchase frozen pizza was simply down to convenience, despite consumers associating pizza as an unhealthy meal choice!
This gave us our first of 3 primary objectives:
Create a pizza which could be made and baked in the same time it would take to cook one of those nasty pre-made frozen ones!
Italian restaurant quality- We needed to create a authentic pizza which had no artificial additives, no nasties and one which was not heavily manufactured.
What if our restaurant quality pizza was soo good, it could actually be served in a restaurant as a premium pizza without the hassle for the chef?
We searched deep into the pizza territory (aka Italy) learning all things pizza and how we could develop our very own authentic Italian pizza to bring home to tables across the UK.
From Rome, Napoli and Apulia, we learned how each region in Italy had their very own style and preference to the perfect pizza.
Doughboys Was Born
A year (and a lot of pizza) later, using everything we'd learned and some amazing partners in Italy, we managed to perfect our pizza dough!
To this day, each of our pizza bases are made in Italy using a framework of regional recipes and traditional techniques such as hand-stretching and stone baking before being shipped all over the world!
